sign, there is the reality to which it points—the Holy Spirit—seen in the form of a dove. The Father declares His love for the Son, and so, here too God’s involvement is uniquely evident. Luke subtly but carefully shows us that Jesus’ baptism is the profound event wherein God the Father anoints Jesus for His royal messianic mission.
